Apple Cheddar Melt

applecheddarI love the combination of crisp apple slices, cheddar cheese and spicy mustard. This open-faced sandwich is one of my favorites at Sammy T’s in Fredericksburg, VA.

Ingredients:
4-slices of hearty whole grain bread
1 tart apple, sliced into medium thin slices
4 slices of extra shard cheddar cheese
Spicy mustard
1 Tablespoon roasted sunflower seeds

Method:

  • Preheat oven to 400º F
  • Spread mustard on bread.
  • Sprinkle with sunflower seeds, top with apple slices and cheddar cheese.
  • Place in oven and cook until cheese melts.

Makes two open-faced sandwiches.

So funny! I was looking for a midnight snack, and wanted something with apples and cheddar, and stumbled upon this. I just happen to have grown up in Stafford, and Sammy t’s was not only one of my very favorite resteraunts, my little sister also worked there.
